Australia currently has no R18+ rating for video games. This situation restricts freedom of choice, encourages piracy, and places adult material into the hands of children. Find out why.

Site Updates: Case Studies (And Banners)

I have added a case studies section to the website. This section will house detailed articles on games which have been Refused Classification in Australia, as well as those which were initially refused and then let in under an MA15+ rating. I encourage people to check out this section and report any errors to me so that I can correct them. You can also go straight to the individual case studies by clicking on the relevant game on the left hand side of the page, under the “Help Us” box.

Update: I’ve also added a series of banner images to the About page. If you would like to use these images to link to this site and raise awareness of this issue, please feel free.

Great website, good to see someone is trying to do something about this issue.

However, your case study on GTA IV states that it was initially refused classification, which is incorrect. Rockstar self-censored the game and only ever submitted an edited version. I felt that this was a great disservice to Australian gamers, since all of the violent content that was removed has appeared in other games that were not banned or edited released both before and since GTA IV. Rockstar submitted the game in December, which would have given them plenty of time to make any requested edits before the April release date, but it seems they were more concerned about saving a couple of thousand dollars not having to resubmit the game if anything was objected to than give Australian gamers the closest version the expeience as it was originally intended.

Anyway, I’ve rambled on enough, keep fighting the good fight!

Thanks for the comments Ben, and for letting me know. I’ll edit the GTA IV case study momentarily.
