Australia currently has no R18+ rating for video games. This situation restricts freedom of choice, encourages piracy, and places adult material into the hands of children. Find out why.

You can help by spreading the word, writing to your Member of Parliament and making your voice heard for a fairer, safer ratings system. Find out more.

    Bloody hell!

  2. Ben says:

This is ridiculous. Again we are treated like children. When are they going to realise that doing this is pointless. This is an awesome game that is aimed at adults! And yet in this ‘free’ country we are unable to access this awesome game because our government believes we can’t handle it… Pathetic!

  3. Matt-Fbx says:

OMG! Seriousley people comoe on! This is Australia and i love this country but it seems to me as of late the simplest of things are really pissing me off! Its a XBOX360 game for christ sake and aimed at adults for crying out loud!! This goverment is a bunch of cerry pickers, its like holden making their brand new clubsport capable of over 200kms ph, but where in god are you expexcted or even aloud to test your new holden to that kind of speed on the road and especially if your paying for that price tag attached to the car i could imagine you should be aloud to see how fast it goes but can you????lol…Well this is a game played in the privacy of your own home, and i amongst thousands of other Australians have waited a very long time for this game to come out and now its going to get banned just like that!!!!! NOT GOOD ENOUGH! I say fix it or change the level of animated blood exposed on game for christ sake…. I mean the americans can handle it and they dont have a problem with it but for some reason it always an issue here for someone to spoil everyones fun!!! Its not a Problem, unless you make it a PROBLEM!

  4. Matt-Fbx says:

And yet because of this issue yet again, Aliens:Colonial Marines has been delayed again for almost another year. I’d like to thank our government again for ruining my day and ruining my XMAS and most of all the glory of spending my money at my local EB GAMES Retailer to purchase my copy of Aliens VS Predator! I mean i pay my taxes and you have to ruin the next year of my life gripping to the feeble hope our government will allow us to be adults and play this game here in Australia………………….

    AAAAHHHHH @#$%ING HELL

  6. Steve C says:

Rebellion stated that they “will not be releasing a sanitised or cut down version for territories where adults are not considered by their governments to be able to make their own entertainment choices.”

… and rightfully so. Everyone is just going to import it anyway. I’m ashamed to live in this country.

  7. Russell Jennings says:

You see, you will only ban the good games. “Explicit human dismemberment, decapitation”??!! Okay, play FEAR 2! Sure, ban L4D2 for a Chainsaw (Dead Rising, Doom 3 anyone?), ban AvP for gratuitous violence (FEAR, SAW the Game, GTA4).

So you all think that the standards set in GTA 4 (rape, drug use) are not as bad as FICTIONAL violence. the stuff in GTA4 Actually happens. I don’t know about you, but I haven’t seen anyone die via Predator, but drugs? Who hasn’t.

Keep in mind that video games are a form of entertainment, and escapism. People should have the right to choose (especially adults). Video games are no longer just for children, its a growing industry for almost all ages, comparable (almost equal) to the movie industry. Anyone seen the Hostel series? 1000 times worse than any video game Australia could allow. Yet the movie is here, pure and uncensored, for All to see. Seriously. you have ratings, so enforce them (on ALL media). I went into Video Ezy to rent SAW II, and some 8-year old went and borrowed Halloween (R18+, funny that). Nobody stopped this alone Eight year old. And yet, its backwards for the adults in the video games industry. We can’t have an R18 rating.
The old rules don’t apply with this sector anymore.

  8. Glenn says:

The Review Board is reviewing the game’s RC rating on December 18. Hopefully they pass it with a MA15+ rating like they did with F.E.A.R. 2 last year. If not, kiss AvP goodbye.

  9. Justin says:

You’ve all made some very valid points in regards to this matter and I find it rather concerning that our government assumes that we are unable to make our own decissions.. unable to protect our children from the gore that maybe in a GAME. Is it because some people couldn’t care less what their children play? That just means that parents need to be more responsible doesn’t it?

I don’t personally see why we can’t have an R18+ classification for video games. Censorship in this country needs to be reveiwed as far as the gaming industry is concerned.. people need to be able to take responsibility and make their own minds up on whats harmful and what is harmless, what is real and in this case, what is fictional.

So who would police it if not parents? Well.. why not places like EBGames? Why can’t they ask to see I.D or proof of age when buying the game? You don’t see alcahol being banned because it is too strong for consumption, or cigarettes being banned because of how much tar content they have, despite how many deaths a year we have from both substances.
On that note, how many deaths have we had because of a video game? None that I can recall.
I think this government needs to take a good hard look at what a democracy really is.

  10. concerned says:

why not just classify it as R18 or M15+ its the parents responsibility to adhere to the classification. Rejecting classification can plainly be seen as ‘Big Brother’ style controlling.
