Just a point of clarification, the information was obtained during a Senate estimates committee, not in the Senate chamber itself. Specifically the Standing Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs during Additional Estimates.

Also to give people a little idea of the number of submissions for other inquiries and how they compare with the number received for this one, the inquiry on climate change and its effect upon Australia's coastline communities received 106 submissions, an inquiry into attainment of Year 12 certificates received 59 submissions, an inquiry into the impact of violence on youth received 63 submissions, etc etc.

So spare a thought for the people who have to process all those submissions.
