R18+ Petition breaks Australian record
According to PAL Games Network, the EveryonePlays campaign calling for the government to introduce an R18+ games rating has generated a very positive response. Over 89,000 signatures has been collected, breaking the 2005 “abolish WorkChoices” campaign of 85,000. This does not include those submissions made online.
When the next SCAG meeting takes place in Melbourne on May 7, will this be enough to convince all attorney-generals to agree to the new rating?

Sorry to be a grammar Nazi, the correct plurality is “Attorneys-General”.
It’s fascinating how popular this topic has become. I wonder if it’s because of it mostly being of interest to an online community. It’s easier to get the word out to them, as opposed to reaching people only consuming traditional media (newspaper, TV).

It makes me sad that this got more than abolishing WorkChoices. I’m pro-r18 but it makes me saddened. Urrrrrrrrrrrrgh.

If they want to stay in politics, they better let us play what we want to play.

whats annoying is
its basically turning us into communist china..
once the government decides one or two things they dont want us to view, it slowly winds up becoming more and more
before you know it, were all slaves in our own country.

I think that we should be getting the R18+ rating soon and I am happy about this. I don’t know any Australian gamers who are against it. Hopefully we get it!

IS Australia a Democracy or a dictatorship? If the majoraty says yes to r18+ games then as a democracy, they should listen and push harder for it.

It remains that we do not have a rating system relevant to the consumers. There is no justification for this, and I urge each and every person reading this to click the ‘How can you help’ button and let their voice be heard. A petition is great, but the numbers are lost. Those same numbers cannot be ignored when they arrive one by one into the inbox of those responsible. Fight for change rather than hope for it.
